Bernie Gallagher, 57, and husband John, 57, have twice called the Irish property market correctly in the past 12 years. In 2013, they bought a Burlington Road, Dublin, office block and in 2014 the €28m Board Gais Energy Theatre, Dublin, just before prices began to take off again. They have since sold 15% of the theatre. Eight years earlier, at the height of the 2006 boom, they had sold their prime properties. One of their key assets is a 24.9% stake worth €159m in Doyle Hotels (Holdings), the Dublin-based group that Bernie, sister of Eileen Monahan and Ann Roche (both qv), chairs. It was founded in 1964 by their late father Pascal Vincent Doyle. They also own commercial property in Poland and a Bradford shopping centre. Other assets include a stake in eNet, a Dublin telecoms company. John chairs and is the largest shareholder in quoted Dublin financial services group IFG.
