Charles Gallagher and family
The Dublin-based Abbey housebuilding group is valued at €292m, but has had a tough time since the Brexit vote, with profits down 27% in the six months to the end of October. The business is run and controlled by the Gallagher family, led by Charles, 57. It was built up by Gallagher’s late father, also Charles, one of seven brothers from Co Sligo. Today the family stake is worth €215m, down €15m on a year ago. St Albans-based Matthew Homes, the family’s other main operation, made €12.9m profit on €60m sales in 2015. The family also has property holdings and plant-hire interests. With some overlap of shareholdings, the Gallaghers are worth €485m with other assets.
