A former Goldman Sachs analyst, Bollinger, 61, was born to US parents. He retired from the Egerton Capital hedge fund he co-founded in 1994, but still has a 50% stake in its parent. The hedge fund manages around €14bn of funds. Profits rose strongly to €159.7m in 2015-16. Bollinger’s 50% stake and share of profits and fees over the years should easily take him to €529m. He and his wife Judith are active philanthropists. A gallery housing 3,500 jewellery exhibits was named after them at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London after they made a substantial donation. The couple, naturalised Irish citizens, also have a home near Schull, Co Cork, and are big donors to the West Cork Arts Centre.
