Lady Ballyedmond and family
Newry-based Norbrook Laboratories, one of the world’s leading veterinary pharmaceutical companies, was run and owned by Lord Ballyedmond until his death in a helicopter accident in 2014. In the year to last July, it lifted pre-tax profits to €42m on €282m sales. The €1.17bn business is still owned by his family, led by his widow Mary, 69, who has joined the board as deputy chairman. Her sons Edward Haughey, 37, and James, 36, are directors. The peer left €404m in his will. The family owns Ballyedmond Castle in Co Down and Cumbria’s Corby Castle, part of which dates to the 13th century. An extensive art collection and other property assets add to the family wealth.
